"Blessed are the peacemakers
for they shall be called
the children of God."
- Matthew 5:9
Somewhere a cop is being yelled at for taking too long to get there; trying to save the life of a total stranger; holding his bladder because he just got an emergency call again; hungry because he missed another meal; having to keep a stone face at an accident scene where there's 2 dead kids; and now its 4 am, and he's missing his family while taking care of yours.
The idea
of Wear Blue Tuesday came about after the murder of a beloved Ottawa
Police Officer on December 29th, 2009, in Ottawa, Ontario. A memorial
site was set-up on Facebook and over 17,000 people both Police Officers
and Civilians from Canada and abroad paid their condolences. The idea
was presented to and accepted by Ottawa Police as well as many other
police agencies.
The sole purpose of this campaign is to honour, support and appreciate law enforcement all across Canada. The significance of this work is to value our law enforcement. It is extremely important to honour the men and woman who have a thankless job and are often unnamed heroes. To bring together our communities as a whole and to appreciate all that law enforcement does for us and our children.
This specific project is to get as many people across Canada as possible to wear something blue each and every Tuesday, to show the law enforcement that we support and appreciate them. Tuesday was chosen as the day, as it was the day Constable Czapnik was murdered, this was his final shift. This is dedicated to his memory.
